These snowmen can be made of any size pickle, salad dressing or any other similar jar with lids. If you place a wick and pour some wax inside them they can be used as candles or luminaries. Or you may decide to make them for gifts filled with candy or fudge. You might also want to keep some for yourself as an addition to your own Christmas decorations. These can also be made as Santa's! They are fun and easy to make.... however, children should be supervised since they will be working with glass.

Supplies for body: Clear glitter (the cheap big crystal type works great!) Acrylic paints in white, red, orange and black is optional. Or you may use: any bottled (with tip) black or gun metal paint. Pickle or salad dressing jars with lids. (smooth bodies only) |
Supplies for hat: |

Directions
With white paint and a 1/2 inch smooth brush or smaller, paint your jar quickly. Mix a drop of red paint to some white paint to make pink and paint the cheek areas. Small swirly strokes are best, the body should be some-what opaque.
While still wet, holding with your hand *in* the jar, sprinkle heavily with the clear glitter and set aside for 10 minutes. If your paint is dry in spots just go over it a little in the dry areas then sprinkle the glitter on.
While your jar is drying, begin making the hat. First you will prepare the felt pieces and assemble them.
Cut 2 circles the diamiter of the lid plus the height of the lid. Snip in the height of the lid all the way around the circles.
For the brim; Quarter a piece of felt and place as shown below. Trim the outside edge so that it's bigger (about a 1" overlap but can be larger), then cut the pointed end (while still in position on lid) about 1/4" in from the edge of the lid. This way it should have a snug fit.

Go back to your painted jar(s) now.
Roll them on a flat surface to knock off and flatten the glitter excess. You may pat with your hands as well. Draw/paint the rest of the face on. While wet, sprinkle some glitter on the paint and set aside again. If you feel you would like more glitter on the white portion of the jar just lightly brush on more paint and add glitter. Remember, the more paint you place on the jar the less opaque it becomes(less translucent.)

Back at the hat now, center the circle of felt and glue on to the top of the jar and all the way around the sides. Glue the 2 short ends of the rectangle together neatly then glue the other circle inside one edged of the now seamed rectangle. (see below)

To make candles or luminaries, tie a weight to the bottom of a string of wick and the other wick end around a pencil. Place in jar and cross pencil over the top. Melt paraffin wax and slowly pour into jar. Let cool overnight. Clip wick 1/4" from the top of the wax. Do not burn them with the lids on! Making these as a gift? Add some scented extracts to the wax while hot.
